You might have heard of this famous quote, “If you don’t prepare, then prepare to fail.” After you get some experience, then arranging music lesson plans wouldn’t be that hard.

For those who are just starting out, here are a few guidelines for creating compelling music lesson plans:

1.Put into mind the student’s age group that you will teach.  

A perfect way to start when you design your music lesson plans is to consider the student’s maturity. What are their likes and dislikes? What sort of music do they listen to on a regular basis? What are the other factors in society that can affect them? Were they at their age they already feel confident of themselves?

These are things to consider when you are writing lesson plans That’s the reason off-the-rack music lesson plans don’t work. Music lesson plans have to be created with the student’s need in mind. After a teacher gained some experiences, they should be able to adapt to the methods instantly, sorting out their music lesson plans and being able to fit in as they go. Yet, when you’re just a beginner, a good plan should be able to know the age group that you will teach and also knowing how you would be able to connect with them.

2.Always plan more than you’ll need

Often you’ll prepare a lesson with (say) ten activities. Sometimes you finish up to the third one and bell rings for the end of the class. Yet another day, still with the same activity and you can be off to a new class and there should still be some 25 minutes! You’re unsure and that’s why it’s always good to have a secondary plan. Have an extra interactive game in your bag just in case there would be some minutes to spare.  

3.Include a mixture of activities

Some music lessons can be set apart in different activities. Sometimes a week lesson would focus on theory, then practical, aural and then history. More often this is inevitable due to some situations and the extent of school lessons, so why not try to jumble it around a bit? If rooms won’t be a problem, you can spend half of the lesson in theory and then you can freely move to aural. It’ll be interesting for the students and keep them guessing.  

4.Start simple – simpler than you might think!

Its always a good idea, particularly if working with younger students to have the simplest version as a backup of your complicated idea. Such example for this is if you plan to introduce a new piece of music for student practice, you may want to decide for yourself if this will be hard for them. This happened to me many times, and I found that if I had ready a small little section or part of the piece which I knew was very easy, that going and doing that bit would be enough to get them in and enthuse them about the piece. It’s not always a good choice to begin at the pinnacle! You can begin with something they can smoothly breeze by, then you can return on the hardest parts later.    

5. Ask for feedback

Students will give you feedback – even if it is extremely subtle. Teens in particular will not say “Mrs.Holmes, you really did an excellent work in the class, you gave lessons that was quite engaging and interesting” Perhaps you might have wished for them to say that – but many times its not part of reality! The students you’ll meet are those happy to come to their class and would share some laughter with you at a right time. You might see kids putting up student bands ahead of their actual lessons. When this occurs, you’ll know you’re doing everything right in your music lesson plans.

Maybe you won’t be ripping up stadiums like Eminem, but hey this is gotta be fun making and recording it.  If you’re one of those people that just likes to listen to music that’s cool too, but this is available just so you know.

So I was reading some Eminem Lyrics the other day and glanced at the comments at the bottom.  All kinds of people were saying eminem was the greatest rapper of al ltime, but then others started jumping in and said it was lies, since tupac is the greatest rapper of all time.  Personally, I think both of them were the best of their times.  You can’t really compare them either because they’re both different rap styles with their own uniqueness.

The conversation then shifted to Zach de la rocha and how he was a great lyricist.  And the theme of that thread ran like this: F*** Zach de la rocha their music is okay but f*** their message, I just want to listen to the song.  Its obvious people believe RATM is more about the message than the music, or least Zach because Tom Morella is a badass guitarist.

Tom came out on Loveline the other day and this guy calls in to complain of how his girlfriend wants to have too much sex with him.  And Tom was like “Ah you poor guy, you HAVE TO have sex with your girlfriend 2 WHOLE times a week”  It was actually pretty damn entertaining.

Anyway, back to Despicable by Eminem, Its sick in the message, the music, and even the way he layss the lyrics off of the paper when he says them. He just packs lots of mayhem.  He briefly mentions hoes and says that he hates them.

So what is the Red Book of audio, what are the media standards it has set, and why is it so important?  

CD duplicators and replicators must adhere to produce discs that conform to certain standards. The Red Book is one of the nine Rainbow Books, which provide universally agreed on specifications for all types of media. 

The Red Book provides the standards for audio CDs, also known as CDDA (or Compact Disc Digital Audio). There are also Yellow, Orange, White, Blue, Beige, Green, Purple, and Scarlet books in the Rainbow Book set. 

These different colored books provide audio standards for:

• Yellow – CD-ROM and CD-ROM XA
• Orange – CD-R and CD-RW
• White – Video CD
• Blue – Enhanced CD, CD+G, and CD-Plus
• Beige – Photo CD Green -
• CD-I (Interactive)
• Purple – DDCD (Double Density Compact Disc)
• Scarlet – SACD (Super Audio CD)

Specifically as it relates to audio, according to the Red Book, a standard CD is 120mm in diameter, 1.2mm thick, and is made up of polycarbonate plastic substrate, one or more thin layers of reflective metal (usually aluminum), and a lacquer coating.

The disc is divided into 3 parts – The lead-in area containing the Table of Contents, the program area containing the audio data, and the lead-out area containing no data.

The Red Book of was developed in 1980 by Sony Phillips to specify the physical parameters of the audio CD. One other major CD specification set by the Red Book is the form of digital audio encoding taken on by CDs. The parameters set have become a de-facto standard in the CD duplication industry. Ironically, CD player manufacturers are not required to provide players that conform to 100% of the red book audio standards. Many do, but there are some that don’t because of cheaper microchips to keep player costs down for consumers.  Over the years, as CDs went from 74 minutes to now 80 minutes, some CD players will stop at 74 minutes 30 seconds which is the official requirement of red book audio.

All in all, most consumers probably won’t be too concerned with the individual technical specifications set by the Red Book. But as a consumer you can take comfort in knowing that there is a high standard of quality being upheld when it comes to your CD duplication, DVD duplication or data CD duplication project.
